Two Greenville Housefires So Far This Week

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Firefighters in Greenville have responded to two house fires since the weekend. On Monday afternoon heavy smoke and fire were seen rising from the back of a home at 1010 Gibbons Street. Inside fire crews encountered heavy smoke and heat. The fire was contained to the kitchen and two back bedrooms but the entire residence received heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. The fire was put out in six minutes and was ruled accidental, with the owner of the building not home at the time. Tuesday evening firefighters responded to a call of smoke inside a residence at 1257 Wasson Street. A quick search discovered a small fire in the attic. The fire apparently started in an inside air conditioning unit which was damaged by the fire or a nearby alarm system plug-in. Firefighters advised the homeowner to have an electrician inspect the a/c unit.
