Trump Reschedules Mississippi Stop for October 2

SOUTHAVEN, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Trump campaign stop in Mississippi that was canceled as Hurricane Florence headed for the Carolinas, has been rescheduled. But instead of being held in the Jackson area as originally intended, the rally will be held in northern Mississippi in Southaven. Trump’s visit is intended to help support Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith who was appointed by Phil Bryant to take over for Senator Thad Cochran when he resigned earlier this year for health reasons. Hyde-Smith is facing three challengers in a non-partisan election to fill the remaining two years of Cochran’s term in November. Pundits say the location change from Jackson to Southaven may help Hyde-Smith. One of her opponents, fellow Republican Chris McDaniel carried DeSoto County by a wide margin in his 2014 campaign against Cochran.
