WASHINGTON, DC (Ben Caxton) — Sources say President Donald Trump is not a fan of Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant’s appointment to fill Thad Cochran’s U.S. Senate seat. yesterday Bryant announced he was appointing state Agriculture Commissioner Cindy Hyde-Smith to fill in when Cochran exits next week. Cochran issued a statement saying he congratulated the Governor on the historic selection adding that Hyde-Smith is a very well-qualified person whose experiences and excellent character will benefit the state in Washington. Hyde-Smith will be the first woman to represent the Magnolia State in the U.S. Senate. Despite the words of praise concerns have been raised both locally, and at the White House over her former association with the Democrat party. Trump reportedly said he will not campaign for Hyde-Smith, although Bryant thinks he will be able to convince the President to change his mind. Hyde-Smith will face an open election for the remaining three years in Cochran’s term in November.
