Tropical System to Bring Barry Wet Weekend

THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — Flash flooding is likely to begin on Saturday and continue through the weekend as Barry bears down on the Delta. High rainfall totals of up to 15″ are possible. A broad swath from Bastrop through Vicksburg, Jackson, and Hattiesburg is currently forecast to see anywhere from four to eight inches of rain with isolated areas receiving a foot or more. Further north Greenwood, Cleveland, and Greenville are expected to see two to five inches of rain over the weekend. Along with the rains, Barry will bring tropical storm force winds and the possibility of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. The storm is expected to make landfall at Morgan City, Louisiana around 7:00 AM Saturday as a weak Category 1 hurricane or a strong tropical storm. Forecasters say wind shear as it approaches landfall could weaken the winds, but the rains are coming regardless.
