Three Weekend Fires in Monticello Area

MONTICELLO, AR (Ben Caxton) — Three fires in southeast Arkansas over the weekend destroyed one home and left two others only slightly damaged. A 9:00 PM Saturday night fire on Ridgecrest Drive in Monticello was contained to just a bathroom. But another blaze which broke out just before 11:30 PM destroyed a home near Coleman on Highway 83 North. Firefighters from Clear Creek, Selma, and Coleman all battled the flames. Two people inside at the time escaped without injury, but along with the house, a vehicle in the carport was also a total loss. On Sunday the Monticello Fire Department was back in action around 10:00 AM called to a mobile home undergoing renovations on Midway Route. Reports say the fire there was contained to a “very small area” in one room. Two people died in separate fires in Monticello in the space of three days to start February, 56-year-old Angela Hoover Wallace, and 62-year-old Delton James.
