Three Months in Sports Betting a Success

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — With three months of experience with sports betting in Mississippi the move appears to be paying off for the state. Mississippi Gaming Commission Executive Director Allen Godfrey says allowing gamblers to be on sporting events has driven additional foot traffic into the state’s casinos, which means more revenue. In total, more than $72 million in wagers were placed have been between August and October, generating $7.3 million in taxable revenue of which 8% goes to the state 4% to local governments. Lawmakers in authorizing sports betting earmarked the money to go to pay for repairs to the state’s roads and bridges.
