The suspect in the murder of a Clarksdale mayoral candidate has been indicted

Lawrence Reed of Shelby has been indicted by a grand jury in Quitman County. He faces murder charges in the death of Marco McMillian, who was seeking the mayor’s office in Clarksdale and was the first openly-gay candidate to do so. His beaten and burned body was found dumped by the levee in Coahoma County on February 27, 2013. A judge has ordered the trial moved to Quitman County, since that is where the murder allegedly took place.
