The Board of Aldermen heard a variety of opinions during a recent public hearing on whether Leland should become the latest community to go smokefree. Proponents argued that it would improve health and make the city eligible for health grants, while opponents argued that it is an infringement on the legal right to smoke. The board tabled the issue last week but may take it up again today.
