School officials say attendance rates tend to drop off in high school. Greenville’s elementary schools had a daily attendance rate of more than 95 percent for the month of December, while high schools averaged 90.4 percent. Officials say they will renew the effort to educate high schoolers about how important it is to come to class on a consistent basis. They say they will seek assistance from Youth Courts for this effort, since students who are 16 and younger are legally require to attend class. Students who receive help from state aid programs can jeopardize those benefits by missing school too frequently.
