Telephone Tax Refund Scam Active In Mississippi

THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — If you get a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS who wants to give you money, and aren’t immediately laughing at that thought, you probably need help not to be scammed. Mississippi residents have reported an increasing number of calls from criminals asking for your bank account information so that they can deposit additional funds. Details like your date of birth and your social security number. Information, of course, the real IRS already has about you. If you receive a call from anyone claiming you owe or are owed money, just give them your mailing address. Give them no personal information. Never give out your social security number. Just your name and your address and ask them to send you the information. Then you can verify if it’s truly the IRS or not.
