Tallahatchie Sheriff Facing 20 Years on Drug Charges

OXFORD, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Mississippi sheriff is facing 20 years in prison on federal narcotics trafficking and extortion charges. 58-year-old Tallahatchie County Sheriff William Brewer was charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, and extortion and bribery under color of official right in violation of the Hobbs Act. Brewer made his first appearance in court Friday in front of United States Magistrate Judge Roy Percy. He was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending preliminary and detention hearings set for August 14 in Oxford.
