Support mounting for local mother battling leukemia

Chicot Memorial

A number of fundraisers in Cleveland will be held over the next few weeks to help a single mom’s fight for her life. Would-be bone marrow donors can get swabbed to see if they might be the right match for Lei-Ann Murphy during next Saturday’s massive event at Grover’s Corner that will feature something for everyone. MET’s Heart founder Betty Mayo, who lost her grandson in 2012 after just nine months of life, is working with other community members to put together exciting raffles and a complete day of events May 23rd. Mayo says additional events are to include a benefit fish fry this coming Tuesday and the upcoming silent auction, for which organizers are seeking donations of both new and old items. Mayo says the effort to support Murphy and her daughter will also include raffle drawings for a 6500 dollar four-wheeler and a beautiful new Remington shotgun.
