Sunflower Receives $500k Grant for Water & Sewer Work

Chicot Memorial

SUNFLOWER, MS (Ben Caxton) — It costs $150,000 just to paint a water tank. Luckily Sunflower now has almost three-quarters of a million dollars on hand from grant and loan money to do that and make additional repairs. Thanks to a rural development package that included $825 million for infrastructure investments in rural America in a bill passed by Congress this year Sunflower will receive a $507,000 grant and a $209,000 loan to rehabilitate an elevated water storage tank to comply with a bilateral compliance agreement with the Mississippi Department of Health. The funding will also be used to evaluate and make repairs to the town’s wastewater system.
