SHAW (Ben Caxton) — Several rounds of late afternoon and early evening storms on Friday brought high winds and some damage to the Delta with trees down across Washington County. In Shaw, several homes suffered roof damage with a fence uprooted at one property. Trees and powerlines were reported down along Highway 438 in Arcola from the first storms around 4:20 PM. Another storm front dropping in from the North caused more damage across the Delta between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Arcola once again saw more trees down across Highway 438, and old Highway 61 causing traffic to be rerouted. A tree fell on a mobile home in Avon around 6:45 PM and another blocked Highway 16 southeast of Yazoo City. The National Weather Service received reports of hail up to an inch in diameter across other parts of Mississippi from the thunderstorms as well. Entergy said as many as 30,000 customers had lost power at one point due to the damage.
