Statutory Rape Charges For Two Men In Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — Two Vicksburg area men are in custody and charged with statutory rape in two separate cases. On Wednesday, Vicksburg police arrested 55-year-old Anthony Charles McCray. The victim’s mother says McCray checked her 15-year-old daughter out of school without her knowledge on December 13 and she believes McCray had a sexual relationship with her. McCray faces a bond hearing in Vicksburg Municipal Court today. Meanwhile, 47-year-old James Willie Ross Jr. turned himself in to the Warren County Sheriff’s Department around 8:00 AM Wednesday morning. Authorities had been searching for Ross across several Mississippi Counties for about a week. Ross, a registered sexual offender, is accused of two counts of sexual battery and one count of statutory rape involving children under the age of 12. 36-year-old Canary Johnson, an acquaintance of Ross, was arrested on January 5th and charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact to sexual battery. Pace said the investigation into Ross began last Thursday when deputies received a tip that two children were being sexually abused at a home in Warren County.
