State Troopers Stopping Travelers For Holiday Again

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers will be blocking highways again on Thanksgiving. MHP claims the traffic stops are a safety measure to search all vehicles for drunk drivers. They’ll also be on the lookout for distracted and speeding drivers. But, they’ll also be handing out tickets and arresting travelers for violations not related to traffic safety as well. MHP’s “Operation Crash Awareness and Reduction Effort” enforcement period will start tomorrow at 6:00 PM and continue through Sunday night. Last year on Thanksgiving weekend troopers investigated 171 crashes with 2 fatalities and made 67 DUI arrests.
