State Auditor Probing Possible Irregularities At Tourism Board

COAHOMA COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — At Wednesday’s meeting of the Coahoma County Tourism board, Chairman Wayne Winter said the group needs to “totally review” all of the agency’s expenditures. Most of the public meeting was spent discussing and approving outstanding invoices. Some of the claims approved for payment by the board were 90 days or more past due. The state auditor is conducting a forensic investigation of the tourism office following the resignation of executive director Kappi Allen amid allegations of financial misappropriations. The agency currently has no computers in the office and interim director Tom Jones says everything is being processed by hand.
