Squatters get their water shut off

Water has been turned off at the mostly vacant SouthSide Garden Apartments in Greenville to encourage any remaining squatters to move out. The City Council has voted to order all squatters out within 30 days, although the water was turned off on Wednesday as an incentive to move out right away. Renovations are underway on the complex, which has been in poor condition for some time. Advocates for the poor questioned whether the water shutoff is appropriate, since there are kids who need to take baths. City officials said emergency housing is available at the airport while the tenants are in transition.
