Spike in Greenville’s unemployment rate

Greenville’s unemployment rose to 14.9 percent in May, up from 13.7 percent in April. Analysts say the rate tends to rise in the summer when college students return and count in the unemployment rate if they do not have summer jobs. Greenville’s rate remains above the statewide average, which rose to 9.2 percent in May from 8.2 the previous month.
