Snap! February Food Benefits Going out Early.

THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — February’s SNAP benefits will be issued early due to the current government shutdown, and long-term benefits may be affected. Mississippi’s Department of Human Services says February benefits will be available by January 20. Lousiana is also issuing the funds early. The benefits are not an extra payment or bonus and are intended to cover food purchases the month of February, and no additional SNAP benefits will be issued in February to households who receive February SNAP benefits early. MDHS warns that limited funds will be available after January 20th, with no resolution to the shutdown in sight, recipients should be prepared for the possibility that SNAP benefits may not be available for several months and recommends buying non-perishable foods.
