Slain Biloxi Officer Was "a Good Cop"

BILOXI, MS (Ben Caxton) — The mayor of Biloxi says a police officer who was shot to death on duty was a good cop who took pride in his job. Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich fought tears as he remembered Biloxi Patrolman Robert McKeithen (much-KEETH-en) Monday. He was shot to death May 5 outside the Biloxi police station. McKeithen was 57 and had been a police officer for nearly 24 years. Hundreds of law enforcement officers joined other mourners at First Baptist Church in Biloxi for Monday’s service including Lt. Governor Tate Reeves who said McKeithen was willing to face that evil to protect those who cannot. 19-year-old Darian Atkinson is charged with capital murder in McKeithen’s death. His brother and three others are charged as accessories after the fact.
