Six Medical Professionals Arrested On Drug Charges

ROLLING FORK, MS (Ben Caxton) — State and federal drug enforcement agents have arrested six Mississippi health care professionals, including a doctor and his medical assistant, on felony drug charges. The arrests stem from separate drug investigations conducted jointly by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. 55-year-old Dr. Michael Baker of Rolling Fork, and his medical assistant, 36-year-old Brandy Collins of Yazoo City, both face charges of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud involving Hycodan elixir, a cough medicine containing Hydrocodone, Baker and Collins are both employees of a Rolling Fork medical facility, and Baker has surrendered his medical license, authorities said. Bond was set at $5,000 each. Also arrested in the sweeps were a 45-year-old director of a Tupelo assisted living facility, a 39-year-old Itawamba County nurse, a 53-year-old Corinth pharmacy technician, and a 20-year old Corinth pharmacy employee.
