Severe Weather Damage Closes Parts Of Arkabutla Lake

ARKABUTLA LAKE, MS (Ben Caxton) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed select recreation areas at Arkabutla Lake and Sardis Lake due to damage from severe weather. At Arkabutla the Hernando Point campground, boat ramp and day-use area have been closed. After debris is removed the boat ramp and day-use areas should re-open in the next few weeks but the campground sustained heavier damage from the storm and will remain closed until further notice. At Sardis Lake, the Weir boat ramp and its entrance road will remain closed until further notice as downed trees have made the road impassable. With approximately 3.2 million visitors each year, the North Mississippi lakes also contribute approximately $82 million into the local economy.
