Second Mississippi Child Dies Of Flu


JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Mississippi State Department of Health has confirmed the state’s second pediatric influenza death of 2017. A central Mississippi child died in January and the latest death is in south Mississippi. There have been a total of 16 influenza deaths of individuals under 18 since 2007. Nationally more than 200,000 people are hospitalized and thousands die each year because of the flu. Although peak flu season has passed, seasonal vaccines can prevent infection in anyone six months or older.
