Second Meeting This Week For Clarksdale Board

Chicot Memorial

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Clarksdale’s city board met for the second time this week yesterday, continuing Monday’s session and conducting routine business. At the start of the meeting attorneys Derek Hopson and Carlos Moore were sworn in as judge and judge pro tempore respectively. Much of the meeting was spent hearing an issue sent back to the mayor and commissioners by the planning commission regarding the former “Memory Lane” banquet hall at 1604 Martin Luther King; several months ago the planning commission recommended conditional use for “The Choice” and new owner Irwin Holmes, including several stipulations suggested by his neighbors. After more than a half hour of testimony, the mayor and commissioners concurred with the planning commission’s recommendation that the business close by 10:00 PM. The board’s next public meeting will be on Monday, July 31st.
