Runoff Mandated Between Guest and Hughes in District 3

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Two Republican hopefuls are headed to a runoff to decide who will face Democrat challenger State Rep. Michael “Big Country” Evans and little-known Reform Party candidate, Mathew Holland for the US House District 3 seat from Mississippi in November. Neither Michael Guest nor Whit Hughes managed to secure more than 50% of the vote in yesterday’s Republican primary. The runoff election will be held on June 26th. In the other primary election, yesterday sitting U.S. Senator Roger Wicker handily defeated business owner Richard Boyanton of Diamondhead. Who Wicker will face in November may have to be decided by another run-off after a crowded field of six Democrats vied to have their name on the ballot in the fall.
