Robots Surgeons Taking Over At North Mississippi Medical Center

Chicot Memorial

TUPELO, MS (Ben Caxton) — If you need surgery in North Mississippi, you might be getting a robot named da Vinci to put you under the knife. The robot, now on staff at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, can perform a wide range of minimally-invasive surgical procedures. According to NMMC, the hospital is the first facility in north Mississippi to provide benefits of this latest model. And there’s not one, but four robot surgeons on staff. The medical center has two da Vinci systems at the main hospital and two more working at the Women’s Hospital. They say 796 procedures have been performed in the past 12 years involving a da Vinci robot. The newest model at the hospital is the da Vinci XI system which administrators say allows their surgeons complete complex cases without the limitations that surgeon would otherwise experience.
