Restraining Order Against State Lawmakers Granted

(Jackson, MS) — After the House used a computerized voice to speed-read bills most of Wednesday, Rep. Jay Hughes of Oxford filed a complaint against Speaker Philip Gunn. Two democrats in Senate and one in the House insisted that bills be read aloud because they think the Republican super majority is ignoring Democrats’’ ideas and were reading bills as a delay tactic. Hinds County Circuit Judge Winston Kidd issued a temporary restraining order saying bills must be read “in a normal speed.” Gunn said Hughes’’ complaint was a “stunt”.
