Purchase puts Planters among the state’s 10 biggest banks

Indianola-based Planters Bank and Trust Company is taking over Clarksdale-based Covenant Bank. Covenant opened in 2000 and has 5 locations, while Planters began operating in Ruleville in 1920 and today has 13 offices in the Delta. If the FDIC approves the merger, the new financial institution will be one of the ten largest banks in Mississippi with combined assets of nearly $1.1 billion.
