Police Chief Addresses Clarksdale Board

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — At yesterday’s meeting of the mayor and commissioners, Clarksdale police chief Sandra Williams and the board commended Clarksdale investigator Eddie Earl and Coahoma County deputy Will Rooker for apprehending 22-year old Christopher Bryant. Bryant was wounded in a shootout with law enforcement last week. He is suspected in a series of home invasions and robberies in West Clarksdale. City clerk Cathy Clark noted that sales tax receipts are down $4000 from the previous year and nearly $13,000 below budget for the first month of the current fiscal year. At the end of the meeting, there was considerable discussion over the need and proper procedure for the board to enter executive session; the confusion began over acknowledgment of a claim against the city and Clarksdale Public Utilities and continued as the board moved to discuss a personnel matter.
