Please Fund Me – Mound Bayou Needs Donations

MOUND BAYOU, MS (Ben Caxton) — The town of Mound Bayou is seeking private donations to pay off nearly $350,000 in tax debt and penalties. Mayor Eulah Peterson told aldermen this week that the city failed to pay $182,000 in federal payroll taxes from 2010 to 2016. Since then, the Internal Revenue Service has added on $163,000 in interest and penalties. Mayor Peterson wasn’t in office then and says she doesn’t know why the payments weren’t made but the IRS has rejected two offers made by the town to settle the debt. On Tuesday the board of Aldermen approved her request to form a fundraising committee to seek private donations to pay the debt. Mound Bayou is also seeking help from Congressman Bennie Thompson, Senator Cyndi Hyde-Smith and Senator Roger Wicker and is soliciting free legal aid.

  1. Sounds like city officials should be the first at that collection plate and work for free for a while.

  2. Not alot that Congressional members can do.

…in other news, Mayor Eulah Peterson woke up this morning , and said: “Oh, See Harry In Trouble”.
