Petition Pushing for Mississippi Medical Marijuana

Chicot Memorial

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — A petition drive is underway for a state constitutional amendment to allow medical marijuana in Mississippi. Ashley Durval registered an initiative yesterday with the Secretary of State’s office. Her group, Citizens for Compassionate Care, must collect over 86,000 certified signatures during the next year from across the state to get Medical Marijuana 2020 on the statewide ballot in 2020. The Legislature passed Harper Grace’s Law in 2014, removing marijuana extract oil from the state’s list of controlled substances. Harper Grace Durval was 2 when the law was passed but has not yet been able to get the oil for treatment for her rare form of epilepsy.

It’s about time government, State and Federal, got out of the way of people using cannabis to treat their medical issues. I have Multiple Sclerosis. And I have read thousands of testimonies of people who have found relief from their pain and muscle spasms with cannabis. I have also read how cannabis is even being used to replace opioids to treat pain. Opioid addiction and overdose has become a national epidemic. Through no fault of the patients, who never expected that the pain Meds their own doctors gave them could become such a nightmare. Whereas the only way cannabis could kill me is if a 1500 lb bale were to fall on my head and break my neck.
