Parent Charged in School Bus Stabbing

(Claiborne County, MS) — After two students were stabbed on a school bus in Claiborne County Thursday morning, the parent of the attacker has been arrested. The attack stemmed from a dispute among three students. According to authorities, the suspect’s brother was involved in an altercation with another male student when the suspect approached with a weapon and wounded both parties. One of the wounded students was treated and released from a local hospital but according to a family member, the other was in serious condition with a collapsed lung. At some point during the disturbance, investigators say 37-year-old George Smith, Jr. arrived at the school bus stop with a weapon. Smith was charged with exhibiting a firearm and taken into custody at the Claiborne County Jail. His daughter, the suspect, was arrested and transferred to the juvenile detention center in Vicksburg pending an appearance in Claiborne County Youth Court.
