Parchman Superintendent To Retire After 36 Years

PARCHMAN, MS (Ben Caxton) — The superintendent at Mississippi’s oldest and largest prison will retire this week. Earnest Lee became superintendent of Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman in May 2012. He began as a trainee at Parchman in 1981 then became a warden and administrator at other two prisons in central and south Mississippi. Marshal Turner, currently a warden at South Mississippi Correctional Institution, will serve as interim superintendent at Parchman which sits on 18,000 acres in Sunflower County. The facility can hold up to 3,590 inmates and now has about 3,360.
