Opeartion Lands 270 Mississippi ‘sharks’ in the ‘tank’

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Operatives from the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force have been secretly pounding the streets of central and southern Mississippi the last six weeks. The operation, nicknamed “Shark Tank” in Mississippi is part of a nationwide effort targeting drugs, gangs, sex offenders and violent crime. Police say they have made 270 arrests of alleged violent fugitives and criminal offenders who authorities said had committed high-profile crimes around the state such as homicide, felony assault and sexual assault, illegal possession of firearms, illegal drug distribution, robbery and arson. Police also seized 50 guns, including military-style assault rifles, illegal drugs worth around $7,500, and approximately $26,000 in cash. In Mississippi Marshals focused on Jackson, Gulfport, Biloxi, Meridian, Hattiesburg, and their surrounding areas. Known nationally as “Operation Triple Beam” the sweeps have been held in 47 other cities nationwide since 2010.
