One Possible Courthouse Location Eliminated

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — The GSA has eliminated one site from contention to host a new $40.1M Federal Courthouse complex in Greenville. According to a report in the Delta Democrat Times, a letter they obtained from the General Services Administration says the government is no longer considering the site of the Elk’s Lodge and an old Buick dealership at 508 Washington Avenue. that leaves two locations left in contention, a site along the Mississippi river levee, and Steinmart Square in downtown Greenville. The new 62,000 square foot courthouse will provide two courtrooms with three judicial chambers for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi. Other tenants will include the U.S. Marshals Service, the Office of the U.S. Attorneys, the Office of the Federal Public Defender, and the U.S. Probation Services Office. The project is scheduled for completion in 2021.
