One Escapee Caught While Another Prisoner Gets Way

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Desoto County inmate who escaped while on work detail in downtown Jackson last week is back behind bars. 24-year-old Melody Diana Maher was captured Wednesday afternoon at a Vicksburg apartment. 34-year old Steven Heigle, who was on probation, and 35-year-old parolee Jerry Brady Weed were also arrested. Both men were previously wanted on unrelated charges but could face additional charges in connection with Maher’s escape. Maher has been in prison since last year for two drug convictions. She received a total of 15 years to serve for controlled substance within a facility and cocaine possession in Desoto County. Meanwhile, authorities are searching for another inmate who escaped in Hattiesburg. Anthony Boyd Lamar was on work detail at Tatum Park when he was last seen around 2:00 PM Wednesday. Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to call local law enforcement or the Mississippi Department of Corrections at 662-745-6611.
