One Dead In Three Vicksburg Shooting Incidents

 

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — One man was shot and killed in Vicksburg near Highway 61 around 10:45 Tuesday night, Vicksburg Police said yesterday. Police were notified by Merit Health that they had a patient with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Reginald Gaines, of Vicksburg, died after being airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center shortly after 2:00 am Wednesday. According to Police Gaines was a passenger in the back seat of a car with friends who had earlier gotten into a “heated” argument with passengers in another car at the Shell gas station on Highway 61 South. He was later struck in the head as another passing car fired into the one in which he was riding. Another incident occurred just before 2:00 am yesterday. Vicksburg Police received reports of shots fired in the vicinity of the 3700 block of Halls Ferry Road. The victim reported that a vehicle that was following him on Cain Ridge Road was shooting at his vehicle striking it. Police are still investigating both shootings but have arrested several suspects whose names have not been released. There is no word on whether the two incidents are related. Earlier, in yet another incident that happened around 5:30 pm Tuesday, police responded to reports of shots fired to find a woman that had been shot in the chest by her boyfriend during a verbal altercation. Police arrested 25-year-old DeShawn Williams who was charged with Aggravated Domestic Violence. Williams is currently being held without bond pending his initial appearance in Municipal Court.
