Ole Miss Advances In Tournament While State Loses

OXFORD, MS (Ben Caxton) — The Southeastern Conference set a record this year as all 13 members made it to the NCAA softball tournament. Mississippi State beat BYU on Thursday but lost to Fordham Friday in Salt Lake City to end their season. Pitcher Alexis Silkwood took the loss for the Bulldogs, ending a great career in Starkville. She leaves the program as MSU’s all-time leader in wins with 59, 559 strikeouts, 50 complete games, 665 innings pitched and 145 appearances. Ole Miss will advance to the Super Regionals for the first time in school history after beating North Carolina Sunday 7-2 in Oxford. The #12 seeded SEC champions will face #5 UCLA in a best-of-three series starting Thursday in Los Angeles.
