NTSB Checking Maintenance Records Of Crashed Plane

OXFORD, MS (Ben Caxton) — The National Transportation Safety Board is checking maintenance records and gathering information about a single-engine airplane crash that killed the 18-year-old pilot. The Cessna 172 belonged to the Mississippi Civil Air Patrol and student pilot Lake Little of Starkville was a cadet master sergeant. She took off Saturday from Columbus planning to go to Oxford and return to Columbus. Little was training for her private pilot certificate and was supposed to compete in this month’s Miss Hospitality pageant. The plane crashed on the Ole Miss Golf Course near Oxford-University Airport. Investigators say the final report could take months.
