North Mississippi Schools Close Because Of Flu

TUPELO, MS (Ben Caxton) — Three north Mississippi schools, two public, and one private, had to shut down on Friday because so many students and teachers were calling in sick with the flu. Local news outlets reported that the North Tippah School District and the South Tippah School District canceled classes because of the illness. Tupelo Christian Preparatory School was also closed. Nearly 350 students were reportedly absent on Thursday from the Tippah school districts alone. reported nearly 350 students were absent Thursday. North Tippah School District Superintendent Bill Brand said his district will use the downtime to allow staff to try and disinfect classrooms to help combat the spread of the illness.
