No State Financing Kills Greenwood Housing Proposal

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — The state of Mississippi has denied a financing proposal for affordable housing in Leflore County. Rowanoak Development wanted to build homes on the site of a former stockyard in Greenwood. The state denied their request to waive a requirement that the development contain blighted residential or commercial structures. County supervisors voted to revoke the company’s option to buy the property from the county. Leflore County Supervisor Robert Moore says his constituents were solidly against the housing plan and he would like to convert the site into a veterans’ center.
