No New Birth Certificates In Arkansas Dispute

Chicot Memorial

LITTLE ROCK, AR (Ben Caxton) — An Arkansas judge has halted that state from issuing new birth certificates until officials can comply with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the state’s birth certificate law illegally favors heterosexual parents. On Friday Pulaski County Circuit Judge Tim Fox set aside his orders requiring the state and three same-sex couples to enter mediation on how to fix the state law to comply with the U.S. high court’s order. Arkansas’ Attorney General had asked the state Supreme Court to stay or lift Fox’s mediation order. Fox said in his order he hopes the governor will fix the law by executive action.
