New Miss Mississippi Crowned in Vicksburg

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mary Margaret Hyer was crowned Miss Mississippi 2019, Saturday night, beating out 44 other ladies during the week-long competition in Vicksburg. For the first time, the state competition did not have a swimwear component, a result of changes within the Miss America organization in an effort to be more inclusive of women of all sizes. Instead, the judges and audience heard more from each contestant about their social impact initiatives. Hyer’s social impact initiative deals with organ and tissue donation; her mother had donated a kidney to her grandmother but many families do not have willing or compatible donors. Hyer will compete to become Miss America 2020 and first-runner-up Charley Ann Nix will take over for Hyer if she is crowned Miss America or unable to fulfill her duties as Miss Mississippi.

Congratulations Charly Ann you are a very special young lady. While I wish you would had won, 1st runner up is very very impressive.
