New state figures on Mississippi’s labor force indicate that the Delta region remains in rough shape for employment. Locally, Bolivar County fared the best, at number 60 out of 82 counties with a unemployment rate of 10.5 percent in January. Coahoma was 71st with a rate of 13.7 percent. Washington was 73rd with an unemployment rate of 13.9 percent and Sunflower 76th with an unemployment rate of 14.7 percent. As a whole, the state unemployment rate was 7.5 percent, which is the lowest it’s been since November 2008 when the recession was getting started.
