New Automated Meter Count Passes The 1100 Mark In Clarksdale

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — At Tuesday’s Clarksdale Public Utilities board meeting CPU general manager Mark Johnson reported that more than 1100 new AMI meters have been installed, and the utility is exploring the possibility of installing WiFi boxes and a weather camera downtown as well as a canopy of decorative lights and a digital monitor to display festival and event details on Yazoo Avenue. The board received an update from Greg Gearhart of WGK Engineers about updates to the city’s water and sewer systems; since 2011 more than $6 million has been spent improving sewer and wastewater systems and while major rehabilitation isn’t required, ongoing maintenance and replacement of parts of the system are recommended.
