Murder Victim Found on Porch As Espy Touts Crime Figures

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — The same day Clarksdale Mayor Chuck Espy was holding a press conference celebrating what he called a “historic” low for crime in Clarksdale, a meter reader across town was dialing 9-1-1 to report a dead body on the front porch of a home in the 1400 block of Herrin Street. The victim was identified as 55-year old Willis McDowell and on Tuesday 58-year old Brunley McDowell was arrested; she is charged with the stabbing death of her husband. The killing marks a quick start to Clarksdale’s first homicide of 2020 after recording twelve homicides in 2018 but only two last year.

  1. It ain’t all bad in Clarksdale – so much good has come out of this little river town. And now there is Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, a gentle, humble young man, who at the age of 20 is already becoming a guitar legend. Blues, jazz, fusion, you name it, he can play it all.
