Murder Charge for Late Night Monticello Wal-mart Attacker

MONTICELLO, AR (Ben Caxton) — A late Tuesday night knife attack at a Delta Wal-Mart has led to attempted murder charges against a Monticello man. Monticello Police were called to the local Supercenter around 11:00 PM. At the scene police found the victim standing beside his pickup truck with a cut to his neck. He told police he did not know the man who attacked him while witnesses provided a description of the suspect who was arrested shortly later as he exited the store. Monticello Police Chief Eddy Deaton said the victim was taken to Drew Memorial Hospital, by ambulance, where he received 15 staples in his neck and released. The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Christopher Barfield of Monticello is being held at the Drew County Jail on charges of Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, and 1st Degree Battery.
