Mississippi Weekend Tax Holiday Begins Today

THE DELTA (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi Shoppers can save up to seven percent on some purchases by shopping locally today through Saturday. The state’s annual “Sales Tax Holiday” allows retailers to skip charging sales taxes on back-to-school clothing and shoes. Many store owners across the Delta are expecting a big turnout. Quite a few are expanding hours to give shoppers more time to take advantage of the lower costs. Some have even extended the tax-free sales into Sunday. There are some restrictions. Taxes will be charged on any individual item priced at $100 or more. The Tax Holiday also excludes athletic apparel, and accessories like jewelry, backpacks and school supplies.
