Mississippi Tax Collections Up This Year

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — This year’s Mississippi tax collections are looking better than they did this time last year. Figures released Friday by the Legislative Budget Office show tax collections for July and August – the first two months of the current budget year – are nearly $54 million higher than they were during the same two months a year ago, about an 8 percent increase. The biggest jump was in individual income tax collections. Corporate tax collections decreased as tax cuts enacted by the Legislature begin to take effect.
